Vicodin Addiction - Vicodin Addiction Treatment - Vicodin Withdrawal

Vicodin Addiction is a growing problem throughout our society today. Vicodin is the most widely abused prescription drugs in America, per the DEA. Vicodin addiction has soared during the past decade, with emergency room visits that were caused by the use of Vicodin up 500 percent. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, 9.3 percent of 12th grade students in the past year are abusing Vicodin for a non-medical reason, thus leading to Vicodin addiction.

Vicodin is one of more than 200 drugs that contain hydrocodone. It is regulated by various State and Federal laws, but not as controlled as closely as other pain killers. This lack of regulation has made Vicodin vulnerable to abuse and addiction through forged prescriptions, being over prescribed by doctors, etc…Vicodin addiction is extremely common among prescription drug users, since itis one of the most widely prescribed drugs for many different types of pain related problems. Vicodin produces a euphoric feeling similar to that of heroin or morphine, which relaxes both the mind and body while relieving pain. Vicodin can be very habit-forming, thus leading to Vicodin addiction. A person taking Vicodin over a long period of time can become mentally and physically dependent upon it. Often the original prescribed dosage no longer works due to a person’s tolerance level increasing, therefore the dose is increased and Vicodin addiction is the end result. Common side effects are dizziness, light-headedness, nausea, sedation and vomiting.

Vicodin addiction is often not easily diagnosed since it is prescribed by a physician, therefore many people and family members do not seem to think that this addiction is as bad as being addicted to street drugs or alcohol. This is often the case with prescription drug addiction, in which Vicodin addiction is a part of. In most cases a person who has a Vicodin addiction problem is in denial, since they were prescribed the drug for an existing problem, such as pain relief. It is common for people with a Vicodin addiction problem to continue to use Vicodin long after the original prescribed problem is taken care of. Vicodin addiction can have devastating effects on a persons mind and body, along with destroying the family unit. Most prescription drug users do not intend on becoming addicts. However, those who have a Vicodin addiction problem continue to obsess over the drug and seek ways to obtain Vicodin. They believe that they can no longer function normally without Vicodin, even though their pain is gone.

Vicodin Addiction is Two Problems, Not Just One

Vicodin addiction may be a physical and/or an emotional dependence, but it is not some mysterious brain disease. Similar to other addictions, a person suffering from Vicodin addiction is using Vicodin to solve some perceived problem or problems in his or her life (i.e. pain relief). The continued use of Vicodin to combat these perceived problems is what leads to Vicodin addiction. When used for pain relief, Vicodin is often continued to be taken even after the pain is gone. Eventually, Vicodin addiction itself becomes an even greater problem than the original problem or problems that Vicodin was supposed to solve.

The result is that now the person has two problems:
  • The original underlying problem(s), possibly now forgotten
  • ·The new problem--Vicodin addiction.

Successful Vicodin Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Solves Both Problems

Many people start using Vicodin to get some sort of pain relief. This is where our drug and alcohol addiction treatment program differs from other programs. We have dedicated staff members that are trained to deliver various assist processes that help to relieve and heal the body, thus eliminating the need for pain medication while going through Vicodin Withdrawal or Vicodin Detox. The assist processes are somewhat similar to a massage. The purpose of this is to get you into communication with your body, and allow it to heal itself. Also, as part of our drug treatment, we offer a Detoxification program, in which we use a Sauna to eliminate drugs and toxins from the body. Many of our students have stated that this process has freed them from the pain that originally lead them to Vicodin addiction in the first place. Vicodin or other pain relievers do nothing more than mask over the real problem(s) that a person is going through. Without handling the underlying cause of the problem(s) that lead to the Vicodin addiction, the solution is just temporary at best. This is why we heal both the mind and the body, since both must be rehabilitated for a person to be happy and successful.

Helping the person with the Vicodin addiction problem to discover or rediscover the original problem or problems and to overcome these with real-life solutions is an essential component of almost all successful Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Centers. By equipping a person who has a Vicodin addiction problem with tools and life skills to confront and handle common obstacles encountered in life, at home, on the job, etc. on a daily basis is integral to beating addiction in the long term!
